People often wonder if they are saving money by adopting a dog or cat from the rescue. Please consider the retail prices of the procedures covered by our adoption fees if you were to pay for them all yourself:

 

Veterinary Health Check

All cats/kittens and dogs/puppies are given a comprehensive veterinary exam prior to adoption.

Average Retail Price at Edmonton Vets:
Exam: $60 - $80

Our animals also have any health conditions treated while at the rescue with no effect on their adoption fees.

Vaccines

All cats and kittens are vaccinated with a 3-way vaccine prior to adoption (Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia Vaccine).  The following booster is also covered by our adoption fee (new owner must bring adopted pet back for vaccination).

All cats that have been rescued from the street or those that have been allowed to go outside will be tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV.(Snap test) They will also be vaccinated against these diseases.

Average Retail Price at Edmonton Vets:
Cat/Kitten 3 way Vaccine (single): Approximately $55 (plus exam fee)

Booster (1 month later): $55 (plus exam fee)

Snap Test $45

Vaccine $45

Deworming/Parasite Treatment 

All of our cats and kittens are dewormed prior to adoption and, if needed, treated with Revolution.

Dewormer: Approximately $ 15
Revolution: Approximately $ 45

Identification

Average Retail Price at Edmonton Vets:

Tattoo: $18

Microchip: $65

Spay/Neuter Surgery

Dogs and cats that are old enough are spayed and neutered prior to adoption. Those that are too little to be spayed or neutered before they are adopted, will be given a certificate that allows them to get a spay or neuter, any identification and  vaccines (such as rabies) that we do not cover at HALF THE RETAIL PRICE .

Average Retail Price at Edmonton Vets:
Cat Neuter $160 plus $25 for pain meds
Cat Spay $240 plus $25 for pain meds
Dog Neuter $ 270 to $300 plus $25 for pain meds
Dog Spay $310 to $350 plus $25 for pain meds

 

As you can see, when you add up all of the various costs, the adoption fee you pay is a really good deal.  Not only that, you can rest assured that you are bringing home a cat/kitten that won't get sick and die on you just as you are falling in love with it, or maybe even make your other pet cats sick.
