ANIMAL WELFARE ALERTS

These are just a few of the many animals we've rescued and rehomed over the years. If you've adopted from us and you'd like to send us a story or letter, and maybe even some pictures, we'd be thrilled to add you to this page! Please be patient, we may have stories submitted to us that haven't been posted yet, but we are just so busy.

Do you remember Wolfgang, the Husky that found a great home with a growing family of animal lovers in 2006? We are happy to include him in a happy endings story about Banner, one of the long haired Poly-dactlys that were recently in our care.   His adoptive family decided that they had room in their hearts and their home for a homeless kitten, and Banner had their attention right from the start. And when they came over to meet him, there was no doubt that he was the one.   We knew that Wolf loved cats and was very gentle and loving with kittens; he had lived with us long enough to realize that he could be totally trusted around them. Banner ( now known as D.O.G.)had spent most of his short life surrounded by dogs that loved to play with him, groom him and sleep with him.  So we were excited that he was going to live with Pam and her family.  What we didn't realize was that he would just love the human baby of the family. I am told that he just follows her around and curls up respectively beside her whenever he gets the chance.   You can see in these photos that Wolf and D.O.G. are loving each other's company...look at Wolfgang's face!

D.O.G. is an indoor cat, but his family is training him to wear a harness, so he can spend as much time outside with them as possible. This is a great family...Pam was originally expecting to get a kitten that she would have as an indoor/outdoor cat, but after talking to us and a few other concerned members of her family, etc., she realized that it wasn't necessary to let your cats outside to keep them happy. I think it was the staggering mortality rates of outdoor cats that really convinced her.  D.O.G is going to be kept safe in the house unless he is supervised by his human family.   I have faith that D.O.G. is going to have a long and happy life with his new family.

Willow was adopted in October of 2006

Hi Kim,
We are having a wonderful weekend and Willow is settling in beautifully. She is already such a part of our family and I don't know what we did without her!

I love how she still has a bit of that puppy smell. And how she hugs. She gets a treat whenever we come in from outside and so far no messes in the house! She is very bright and eager. She stayed in the crate for the night without a sound, and was little Miss Sunshine when I let her out this morning.

All the kids stuffed animals are getting licked... I have a floor full of them. I think it's time to hang the IKEA tubes that can keep the stuffies out of reach! :)

Willow has had so much exercise and the kids just adore her. She is so funny rolling in the leaves and chasing sticks. She has made friends with a whole pile of kids today and a couple of the older dogs in our co-operative here -- and she is so good with them all. Everyone thinks that she is just beautiful :) and so sweet.

Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you again for rescuing Willow and for helping us to find her!

Talk to you soon,
Shawna

Ziggy  was adopted in October of 2006

Thanks so much for choosing us to take Ziggy.

He is one special kitty, we absolutely adore him!  He has fit in so well with our family, both my wife, myself and our other cat adore him.  He's full of energy and loving life here, we can't remember life without him.  What a great cat he is, how someone ever abandoned him I just don't know.  But I'm really glad we were given the chance to offer him a great home.  He'll be forever happy now!!

Thanks again.

Emily Rose was adopted in September of 2006

Hey Kim:

Emily went on her first camping trip this weekend.  She was really good and seemed to enjoy it a lot.  She really likes being outside and will bug and bug until you take her out.  She was very busy chasing leaves and climbing trees and then off the the trailer for a nice nap.  The pitter patter of the rain this morning seemed to freak her out a bit, but she soon calmed down and rides in the truck like she was meant to do it.

She's trying very hard to get the other two cats to like her, but so far not too much success.  I don't suspect she is going to give up to easily though...lol.

Talk to you soon,

Tracy & Katelyn

Buster (Previously known as Peter) was adopted in November of 2006

Hi Kim

Buster adjusted to us (me and my mom) really well. He's doing great. He gets
out every night and I only let one of our dogs sammie (our poodle) out with
him. I watch both of them really closley sammie just kinda lays there
though!

Buster is really funny. He sits up like a groundhog, he loves to scratch and
chew our cloths so we have to cover up with a towel when we hold him, and he
loves to run around the house.

I'm sending you some pics of him.

Michealla

Draco was Adopted in November of 2006

Hello Devon,

Draco is doing well!   I have attached a photo
of Draco.  He has grown and has gone through a "shed".  Ian is just so in-love with this creature and I think Draco loves him back.  I'm sure that lizzard smiles when Ian carries him around! Happy New Year.

Karen

Enzo was adopted in December of 2006

Enzo was picked up from a Calgary home in November. After a week and a half in rehab with Dev
on treating some minor shell infections she's now in her new habitat.

Enzo has been growing rapidly and eats like a pig whenever she gets the opportunity. She loves to bask and has a perpetual smile ever since she arrived at her new home. Whenever anyone enters the room she quickly swims to the glass to greet (although probably just beg for food!!).

Her shell has improved loads and she's got to be the most beautiful girl out there!!

Thanks for helping me find my little girl Devon!

Pickles, Teddy, and Boo were Adopted in February of 2007

My 3 boys are great! Ever since I got them they have been nothing but fun! They run  around there cage and play, the run in the wheel but most of all they love to come out and play. I don't know what I would do without these guys in my life. They are the cutest little guys on earth! These hamsters are the best baby boys in the world and are in great condition, way better then if I would have go them for the pet store! Boo, Pickles And teddy have made my life complete! Thanks for my 3 cuddly friends!
Kalena

Lola, Lightening, and Michael were Adopted in January of 2007

I adopted Lola (about 1 year) who had had a litter and a bit of a bite on her right ear. She is a very nice sweet hamster. She doesn't like you coming in and getting her but she does come out of her cage herself and you can pick her up. My son is 4 and she has never bit him even though his hands are small and she's quite big. She is doing very well. Loves chewing up toilet paper rolls and stuffing as much bedding and such as she can in her hide.

Lightning and Michael are 2 of the dwarf hamsters. I got them for my son. I didn't know how interesting hamsters could be. Lightning loves running on the wheel ALL THE TIME and running through the tubes, he's very funny. Michael is somewhat lazy. He uses the wheel sometimes but mostly sleeps. Whenever i come in my sons room they come running to the cage door and want out. Michael always licks my hand when i hold him. Lightning just wants to run everywhere, i swear that hamster is hyperactive lol.

They are great, all 3. So sweet and fun.

I have to say that they are in great health. I have had hamsters from pet stores and I have usually had a problem with something or another. These hamsters have all been great. Friendly and healthy. I would always go to McDonalds rescue and have recommended them to many people. The rescue was very helpful concerning accessories needed, cages,etc... And you can tell that they are not asking for money to make them rich. I loved that I had to fill out an adoption form for hamsters, it shows how much they care.

Flammie was Adopted in June of 2007

Hello!

I adopted the Chinese Water Dragon and wanted to let you know she's doing great... We called her "Flammie". We didn't meant to, but we gave her that as a nickname until we thought of something better and it stuck.

Bunny the Guinea pig was Adopted in August of 2007

Bunny (piggy in the middle!) found an amazing home with two other guinea pigs, so now she isn't alone! Her new mom built them a new cage on the very night Bunny was brought home, and now she is living happily with her new gal-pals. Her new family loves her a lot, and we couldn't think of a better place for Bunny to live out the rest of her years.

Cally was Adopted in July of 2007

Dear McDonald Family,

We added Callie to our family near the end of July and now couldn't imagine our home without her! She's very playful and gets into EVERYTHING but we wouldn't have her any other way. At first she was a bit aloof and would give shy little purrs when we were near but now she's tusseling with and grooming our other kitty, Artemis and seeks us out for love and scritches. Cal wakes us with licks to our cheeks each morning and has taken to trying to get under the covers or dancing on our pillows. Thank-you so much for trusting us with this little girl as she's made our home complete.

Remus (formerly known as Nelson) was adopted in September of 2007

Dear McDonald Family,

This is Nelson. My parents renamed me "Remus" which I really like. They also call me Genghis or Sashimi, but only when I'm trying to help dad with the plant-pruning or my siblings and parents with their dinner.

My parents love me to bits. I'm always getting picked up for a cuddle or pets. Every night, mom makes me brush my teeth and have a rag bath. I hate it, but she tells me it's to keep me healthy.

You would be so proud of what a smart kitten I am. I've learned how to walk on a leash so next spring, I'll get to go for walks with mom, dad, Gus (my big brother and fellow kitten), Kaleb (the sheltie who loves to play with me), and Buddy (the bernese who I sleep next to during the day). Plus I've learned how to sit for treats and come when mom or dad call me.

Thank you for taking such good care of me until I could find my forever home.

Love Always,
Remus

Marco was adopted in October of 2007

Hi,

Marco was awesome last night he slept with me all night. He purrs really loud lol. I just got back to work I ran home to feed him some of the soft food. He was sleeping on my bed.  I bought him a kitty condo thing last night also he seemed to like that, along with a bunch of mice toys and balls.

I attached a bunch of pics from last night. It was hard keeping him to stay still he was busy investigating my house. When I get some better ones ill send those, also as he gets bigger ill send some more.

Mukao (left) and Isis (right) were adopted in the Fall of 2006

Although I have tons of piggy stories about these two, I don't know if
they're relevant to your page. The black and white one is named Mukao, and the red head is Isis. Mukao is definitly the boss of the two, but Isis is the sweeter one. They both like to cry for vegetables (baby carrots are their favourite) and enjoy knocking off anything placed on the second level of their pen. Isis likes to swim in the bath. We are very happy with our babies.

Wolf was adopted in September of 2006

I'm gonna start by saying that Wolf has been a wonderful addition to our family.  We were so pleased with the way the adoption went; it was so smooth.  The transition home took little to no effort at all, Wolf fit in perfect right from day one.  He loves playing outside in the yard with Roxy (our Beagle), splashing around in his tub of water/rolling around in the snow, and going for long walks around town.  He was a bit shy to begin with, but he now roams the house like it's his own and treats us like we are his family in a loving and loyal way.  Our experience with The Mcdonald Family Animal Rescue was excellent; they made sure we knew both Wolfs pros and cons so we could make a sure decision whether he was right for our family.  They have been awesome in every respect and are following up routinely to make sure everything is going well, just showing how much they care.

Sunshine was adopted in September of 2006

I'm writing a little testimonial for my pet canary, Sunshine.  I found her on the Internet, and picked her up from the McDonald family's Animal Rescue on September 17.   I fell in love with her on first sight.  A month later, I can tell you she's so much a part of my life.

I love the way she flies and does little tricks in her cage.  She holds onto the bars and flaps one  wing.  I bought her a huge cage and she flies up and down and across.  She is energetic and fun to watch in the morning.  Her bathing routine is so cute to watch too.  She is the hit with the neighbors!

I leave the door open for her to fly around and sometimes she feels brave enough to come out.  She hops around the kitchen floor, and takes a few flying tours.  One day she found a green twist tie and she must have thought it was a treasure for her nest!  She was so proud taking it home!

When I don't hear her peeps and whistles and trills I can hear them in my head.  I sometimes put on a cd of birds singing and she gets right in there!  She is so excited she almost bursts into song!  (Being a female that probably won't happen).

Right now I am quite sick and have to stay at home and rest.  So who do I have as my constant companion?  My very beautiful peach and gold coloured canary named Sunshine.

Syd was Adopted in September of 2006

I welcomed Syd into my home in late september, he's been nothing but a bubble of joy and amusement since then. He had his first xmas with us, and was delighted to jump around the presents with his play pal skeksys, whom he shares my room with. You can always find the two nestled up, snuggling all day long some days. He still runs away from most people, but will come up to me for pets and kisses, and yogurt drops if i have them handy. Whenever he hears the bag rustle, he comes running at full speed and doesnt stop until the yogurt has touched his tongue. He seems to be adjusting well, and the fine care he recieved at the rescue no doubtedly started him on his path to happiness.

I highly recommend the McDonald Family Rescue to anyone in search of an animal. I am all for adoptions, but even before checking shelters and clubs to see if they have any animals in need, i always check to see if there are any animals of my desire up for adoption with the McDonalds. I whole-heartedly support the amazing things they do with the animals, be it general care, or bringing it back into it's full health. Never have i seen a family more dedicated to the well being of animals. Keep up the amazing work guys!

Vette was adopted in August of 2006

Vette was adopted in mid-2006 after being surrendered to The McDonald Family Rescue. Since I couldn't adopt her, my boyfriend did and has been "fostering" her until I can take over her care. When she came home with me for the first time, she was a shy, scared little hedgehog and didn't really trust anyone. Devon was wonderful about meeting me to drop off this sweet girl. She supplied us with a wheel, food bowls, an igloo to sleep in and two nearly full bags of food.

After about 6 months of hard work on my boyfriend's part, Vette is finally coming around. She is relaxing more and more each day and loves to be given treats. She's still very wary of strangers, but we're seeing more of her face each day. She's very independent, and prefers to be left alone, but will tolerate cuddling at times. She still doesn't like having her nails trimmed, but she tolerates it a few times a month.

I highly recommend the Mcdonald Rescue. They do so much for the animals they rescue, yet the adoption fees are more than fair. I also like the fact they ask for updates on the animals they rehome; it shows a genuine love for these animals. I would not hesitate to adopt from this Rescue again, and probably will in the future. Thanks so much for notifying me when Vette came to your Rescue; both my boyfriend and I love her!

Zoe was adopted in April of 2007

 Hey guys!

I have to thank you again for giving me the opportunity to care for this pretty lady. When I heard about her previous condition and past, I have to admit I was a little worried that she wasn't doing all that well. She actually turned out having beautiful colors and looking very healthy and with good weight, thanks to your wonderful care of course. She's deffinitely doing awesome and being such a sweetheart and after carefully introducing her to Orion and Raja (my other two geckos), I'm pleased to say she's accepted them just fine as they've accepted her and she's finally moved in with them in the 40gal tank. It's only a matter of time before I send another update with more pictures of the three of them hanging out together and the newly decorated tank. Once again, thank you for everything and actually driving her down and she's not only made me a lot happier, but she's deffinitely made the other geckos happy too.

-Gigi

Ruby was Adopted in June of 2007

Hey guys!

I hope all is well!  Everything is going well at my home :)  Ruby-Q is starting to come around!  The other night I was sitting in the dark with her on my lap.  She stopped huffing almost immediately. She was walking all over my lap and legs.  She put her quills back and I was actually able to pet her!  What a neat feeling.  I rubbed her again under her chin before she got scared and balled up again :)  My dogs have realized that she's just a baby sister that you can't play with.  Ruby is a great addition to the family.  Thank you for helping me to adopt her into our clan and letting me support your cause.  Keep up the great work!

Take care,
Faith

Felix was Adopted in July of 2007

Hello McDonalds!

Our little Felix (formerly known as Ghost) is fitting in wonderfully with our family. It took Milo only the first day to warm up to him, and they are now usually found on some sort of adventure with each other; whether it be hunting a fly or exploring the laundry basket. Felix has really developed a liking for Lance, my boyfriend, and loves to sit on his lap when he's playing videogames or watching a movie. We absolutely love him and he has added a lot of life to our home with his crazy antics..lol. You can see pictures of him in my album entitle "animal crackers". Thank you again, and if you ever need help with anything, feel free to contact me :)

Abby was Adopted in August of 2007

Abby (left) was found as a stray, after being hit by a car. The search for her old home was unsuccesfull, and she was adopted by a wonderful woman who had just recently lost her senior dog to old age. She joined her new brother Stryder, another dog rescued by this wondeful family. She connect to her boyfriend immediately, and goes with him on truck trips. She wasn't nervous at all when they came to pick her up, and jumped into the front seat, put her paws on the dash, and was ready to go! Thank you Gayle, for giving Abby a second chance at a wonderful life!

Hudson (right) and Echo (left) were Adopted in September of 2007

On the 3rd, I went and picked up Hudson and Echo from the Mcdonald's
house.

When I first got them home, they were a bit freaked out. No shock there. Within an hour, they started to relax and just looked around. I didn't allow them in the basement or upstairs so they wouldn't be overwhelmed. But, by that night, they were soooo playful and cuddly.

Hudson is sooo funny! He growls at all his toys and does back flips when he's got one he really likes. Echo is a tad more laidback until she sees him with her pink fluff ball I got for them. Then she strikes with everything she's got and takes him down. He's only allowed playing with the purple one, haha.  They went to the litter box right away and are downing the Orijen.
Echo lovessss licking faces, haha, I woke up to her I don't know how many times, giving me a few licks. They both love to sleep with you and Echo always has to be really close to your face. I think they've both made me at least 25 sweaters by now wit all the pawing they do, haha.

They come when you call them and get upset when you go to the bathroom and don't invite them in. They're following me around everywhere, and are just the most loving cats I've ever been around and so well behaved. They're so gentle when you play with them, and have not once brought out their claws when playing or jumping on the leather couch. I'm so in love! <3

 Baroo (Left), Max (Right)

Max (Formerly known as Renee) was adopted in September of 2007

When I first saw Max, I knew that I needed to bring him home. When he first arrived at the McDonald Family Animal Rescue, he was a pathetic scraggly little ball of fur. It broke my heart to see an animal in that condition. He was underweight and extremely matted.

I know that Devon and her family put in countless hours caring for Max, and I'd like to thank them for all of their hard work. I'd also like to thank them for letting me bring him home!

After some intense grooming sessions with both Devon and myself, Max looks so handsome! He's filling out nicely weight-wise, and his personality is only improving with each play time.

After his quarantine, I introduced Max to my other single male, Baroo, and they've been best friends ever since. They love the company, and I constantly see them snuggling, grooming each other, and playing in the cage. When I take them out to play, they race around and explore as a team.

I'm so happy to have Max in my little 'herd'. He always brightens my day, whether poking his nose out of his cage for a rose hip, or leaning into me when I 'scritch' under his chin.

Thanks again, McDonald Family Animal Rescue!

- Dori (and Max, Roo, and Chibi)
