Kiera; Used, Abused, Discarded.

Kiera is a 4 year old Miniature American Eskimo, who was originally purchased from a mass breeding operation at that owns a shop in Edmonton. She was kept in the work shop, where the employees did their best to take care of her and groom her. Despite their efforst, Kiera still didn't receive any vet care during this time, as her owner was uninterested in keeping her happy and healthy. Employees knew that her teeth/gums were in need of attention, because her breath smells like infection and eating hard food was very painful for her. Her owner bred her twice to another American Eskimo, and she had her pups in the shop, where they lived in filth. She didn't receive any vet carea Hudderite Colony, by a man during either of her pregnancies.
Her already uncaring owner lost all interest in her about 5 months ago, and took her out to his acreage where he forbid her from coming inside the house. He was heard saying "If we just let her loose, hopefully she'll be hit by a car". Fed irregularly, she lost a lot of weight, and her fur

grew filthy and matted. When shop employees found out how she was being neglected and left outside, they were furious, and began trying to convince their boss to give her up to The McDonald Family Rescue. Finally, he found some sense and allowed her to be surrendered. They bathed her and made an attempt to brush her before bringing her over.

She is a very sweet girl. Initially nervous, she is quick to warm up to you once she realizes that you won't hurt her. She is very easy to pick up, good in the car, great with other dogs and cats, and seems to love living in the house. She quickly found her spot on the couch. She is extremely matted and losing a lot of hair; Damien, one of the daughters in the McDonald Family, is a professional groomer and is taking her into the shop tomorrow on her day off to shave her. She'll feel so much better once the mats aren't pulling at her skin!
As previously mentioned, her breath is extremely foul, and though most of her teeth seem to be in good shape, there are a couple that appear to be rotten and her gums seem to be diseased. She has a checkup booked for next week, at which time we will know exactly what dental work has to be done. In the past, we had a dog with a similar looking/smelling mouth, and his procedure was upwards of $600.00. Depending on how many teeth have to be pulled, it may end up being upwards of $1000.00. Only the vet will be able to tell us for sure, so we will update with the veterinary results as soon as we get them!
