08-09-05 The SOA Start-up Death Match
August 9, 2005 | 6:30PM - 8:30PM | Fenwick & West
Don't miss your chance to see the battle of the hottest startups in SOA, moderated by Steve Fox, Editor-in-Chief of InfoWorld, which just completed its hugely successful conference on SOA.
Is 2005 the year that the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) market gets real? Software VC and blogger Bill Burnham thinks so - check out his blog. BEA is betting the farm on it with their recent AquaLogic launch. Since battle between the big enterprise companies has heated up in the last quarter, new leaders are emerging fast, filling their dance cards with strategic partnerships and large customer deals.
In our 16th Under the Radar event, we'll highlight four private companies poised to play and win a piece of this emerging market. They'll pitch to a panel of expert VCs active in this space. And as in other UTR events, both the VC judges and the audience vote for the company most likely to succeed.

03-02-05 Wireless Mesh Networks - Bridging the Gap (evening) March 2, 2005 | 6:30PM - 8:30PM | Fenwick & West
Wireless mesh networking is officially a sector to watch in 2005. Why? Because mesh networks help solve the range limitations of wireless environments. Besides the obvious benefits to end users (ubiquitous and continuous broadband connections), cities, such as Las Vegas, are now giving 'first responders' unbroken communications and constant access to their databases.
The real question is where's the growth opportunity for companies in this space? How will they make money or will they just be absorbed by larger players such as Nortel and Motorola (who just acquired MeshNetworks in November)? In our 14th UNDER THE RADAR event, we will highlight four private companies poised to play and win a piece of this growing market.
They will pitch to a panel of expert VCs active in this space. And as in other UTR events, both the VC judges and the audience will vote for the company most likely to succeed.

02-02-05 Secure Communications and Compliance - Not Just an IT Concern February 2, 2005 | 6:30PM - 8:30PM | Fenwick & WestMany organizations today face the problem of how to comply with new regulations that mandate privacy and confidentiality of computer-generated records such as email and instant messaging. Compliance and secure communications is not just something for the 'techies' to worry about. Executives and board members of non-compliant organizations can face severe penalties for any shortcomings.
'Security has become an executive issue,' said Paul Proctor, vice president of security and risk strategies for META Group. 'Executives would like to protect against the threat of losing sensitive data due to faulty business processes or malicious insiders because this threat affects their customers and their bottom line.'
In this UTR event, we will put four companies, each with a unique approach, in front of panel of VC judges and a skeptical audience. Join us at our 12th Under the Radar event, were we'll review companies attempting to secure communication through various methods ie: alerting, blocking, encrypting, generating reports through archived messages etc.
