Types of yoga

Bhakti Yoga - the yoga of devotion

This type of yoga is dedicated to love. The main here is to cultivate positive emotions to all creation and seeing the divine in everything. It involves all your deeds and thoughts.

 

Karma Yoga - the yoga of service

Karma means action. This is the path of selfless service and requireñ action. The main principle of that path is that our actions today create our experience in the future. Karma yoga is practiced in everyday life.

 

Jnana Yoga - yoga of the mind and wisdom

It requires will and intellect. Jnana yoga is most difficult path.

The main goal of Jnana yoga is to become liberated from the illusions of maya (thoughts and perceptions) and to achieve union of the Divine Self (Atman) with the oneness of the universe (Brahman).

 

Raja Yoga - the royal yoga

Raja means "royal". This type of yoga demand strict fidelity to the eight "limbs" of yoga

Yoga Sutras and contemplative lifestyle. That's why it is more usual for religious orders and spiritual communities. But it does not mean that you have to become monk to practice Raja Yoga.

 

Mantra yoga

Litteraly Mantra means "mind-protection".

This type of yoga involves meditation by using chanting a specific word or phrase. The sound of that gradually reveal the superconscious emotions and thoughts.

 

Laya Yoga

Tantra Yoga - the yoga of continuity

Literally Tantra means "thread" or "continuity."

This is the most misunderstood branch of yoga because it is related mainly with the sexual rituals. It is also relatied to conversion of the polar opposites.

The essence of tantra is are secred spiritual rituals.
