Vivien Blackburn:  sketches in pencil, charcoal, watercolour, oil, oil pastel, digital media, coloured pencil, graphite, mixed media - and more!

Sketchbooks are a very important part of my work.  They are research, resources for the future, they contain sketches, notes, fairly finished pieces and rapid minimal sketches and they are a good way of working around ideas for me.

I use a wide variety of media in the sketchbooks - everything from the normal pencil and charcoal through to oil paints and collage.  I stick in relevant research information as well, from found objects to digital images.

I tend to keep some books specially for ongoing projects so that all the research material is together but this doesn't always work smoothly!  others are just general and are a mixture of whatever interested me at the time.
