Samchung was born in Kham, Tibet in 1975. He completed his primary school in that region and then went to Beijing for his secondary education.
His formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Tibetan Literature and Culture at the Central Minorities University in Beijing and subsequent Advanced degree from the renowned School of Fine Arts at the South West University of China in Chengdu.
He has exhibited his work with the Fine Art Association of Sichuan (1998), Young Artists
Association of Chengdu (1998), China's Young Artists Association (1999 and 2001) and
the Tibet Museum in Dharamsala (2004). He became a member of Fine Arts Association
of Sichuan in 1999.
He escaped to India in 2002 and now lives and continues his work as an artist in Dharamsala,
