Tenzin Gyurmey
Born in a small town called Poanta sahib in Himachal Pradesh and his parents are from the Kham region of Tibet. He completed his schooling from TCV Dharamsala. Inspired and taught by his father, who was a traditional visual artist; he started sketching early in life. Thematically, his works are inspired by nature, indigenous culture and morality of host society and various religious philosophies, especially Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and science.
Now in his final year at Delhi College of Arts, he was launched by Peak Art gallery (Dharamsala). As a contributing member of the Tibetan Art Collective, he communicates through raw forms which resonate with both my traditional and modern roots.
To quote the Times of India Crest article by Elizabeth Somya - "While he does pick the Tibetan community as one of his themes, his dark, expressionist portraits are far from cheerful and don’t in the least bit resemble picture perfect people resplendent in their finest Tibetan attire. He decides instead to depict his subjects as real people, often tired, weary and wrestling with unspoken burdens both within and without."
Gyurmey participated in a group show of contemporary Tibetan art at the International Center Goa featuring Tibetan artists from around the world in November 2011.
