Dennis L. Murphy, Ph.D., is the founder of Spatial Interest and the publisher of Communities on the Edge; News Clips; and Seeking Cents of Place.

Dr. Murphy's interests span over thirty years of work experience, including:

  • Land Use Planning:  Planner and Community Development Director for the municipality of Woodbury, MN
  • Research and development: in the field of decision support systems for natural resource management at i) USDA North Central Research Station, ii) USGS EROS Data Center, and iii) Potlatch Corporation.
  • Strategic Planning: as Business Development Manager for Potlatch Corporation's Resource Management Division. 

 

As part of the business development role in a publicly owned company, Murphy managed a three phase forest conservation easement project, funded by the Forest Legacy Program and private donors.  The easements protect 55,000 acres of working forest in the St. Joe River Corridor of northern Idaho.  The Idaho Department of Lands, on behalf of the Public, received development rights, public access, and special management area restrictions. 

 

Murphy is a Board Member of the Palouse Land Trust, and supports the Idaho Working Lands Coalition.

 

Spatial Interest was created to publish land use, conservation, and land economics stories using Web technologies.  The company offers analysis services in the field of land and conservation economics, supported with Web publishing services to communicate the information . 


Spatial Interest also provides Web Space to Discuss Place: community forums  to address issues that face Communities On the Edge.
