WHTT Equal Opportunity to Achieve
Every person has a self evident and unalienable right to an equal opportunity to achieve to the maximum level of that person's natural ability and ambition. A society which uses equality as the cornerstone on which all other laws are built, must surely offer equal opportunity to each member of that society. A society cannot be equal if it does not provide equal opportunity to all its members. An equal opportunity to achieve means that every individual should have the right and the ability to achieve whatever level of success that person's natural talent and ambition permit.
Unfortunately, society today actively restricts most people's life, liberty and pursuit of happiness by severely limiting each individual's opportunity to achieve. Those restrictions are imposed, perhaps inadvertently, by:
Parents who cannot provide their children with a loving and learning environment needed to properly guide and motivate the children through their early formative years.
Peer groups which do not value education and ambition.
Public school systems which must allocate far too much of their limited resources to non educational issues such as discipline and security.
A society which permits unequal treatment of its citizens because of prejudice and discrimination.
Governments which impose tax burdens that unfairly limit individuals' opportunity to achieve. |
An individual whose opportunity to achieve has been constricted by society has little hope of ever realizing the full, happy, and free life that should have been possible for that person. We Hold These Truths... presents more information about the current problems in society, and the solutions needed to provide all individuals with an equal opportunity to achieve.
