Was Bill Girard more of a sculptor or a painter? Hmmm. It might be good question. It could also be a false dichotomy.
So far as I can tell, Bill seemed to believe that certain images wanted to be born in two dimensions while others required three. Either way, it was his job to give them life.
I can say with certainty that he felt that working in three-dimensions strengthened an artistís ability to create two dimensional forms.
